CITY OF PALM DESERT – RFQ – El Paseo Exhibition

El Paseo is the premier shopping street in Palm Desert and the Coachella Valley, located in southern California. The exhibition space consists of eighteen lighted concrete pads located in the medians along a one and one half mile stretch of prime retail. The artwork remains on exhibition for approximately two (2) years, with installation tentatively planned for October – November 2016 and de-installation planned for October 2018.

ELIGIBILITY: Open call. Artists who have participated in the 2015/16 El Paseo Exhibition are not eligible to apply.

BUDGET: A $2,500 honorarium will be provided for each selected artwork. Participant is responsible for delivery and pick-up of artwork per scheduled date.

CITY OF PALM DESERT – RFQ – Tile/Glass Mural for Carlos Ortega Villas

The City of Palm Desert is seeking an approximately 12 feet high by 8 feet wide tile or glass mural to be installed on one of two exterior walls of the complex’s multipurpose room (the selected artist will choose on which wall to work).  The mural must be durable and sustainable in temperatures up to 120 degrees on a regular basis in the summertime.  The mural must incorporate the life of Carlos Ortega, former Palm Desert City Manager, into the artwork.  Artists are encouraged, but not required, to incorporate a community workshop into their process.

Carlos Ortega Villas is a 72-unit affordable senior housing project that has been designed to meet Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver level requirements and be a net-zero energy project.

ELIGIBILITY: The commission is open to all artists

DEADLINE: June 30, 2014

BUDGET: The total budget for the commissioned artwork is $30,000, inclusive of all artist’s fees and expenses for design, fabrication, transportation and installation.

GREEN PUBLIC ART CONSULTANCY – RFP – GREEN ART PARADE

Green Public Art Consultancy invites artists, performers and designers to create floats, placards, portable sculptures, kites, performances, art bikes, balloons and street spectacles for a Green Art Parade! The route will begin at a location TBD in North Park and will conclude at Art Produce (3139 University Ave, San Diego, CA 92104). Participants must be able to walk, run, and/or roll the entire route. The route will not exceed 1 mile in length.

The Green Art Parade will occur on two dates, Saturday, July 13, 2013 and Saturday, August 10, 2013 from 7:00 – 8:00pm. An artist’s reception at the Art Produce gallery and garden will immediately follow each event.

ELIGIBILITY: This call is open to all artists residing in Southern California. Artists living in San Diego are especially encouraged to apply.

DEADLINE: Submission materials are due May 15, 2013 by 5:00pm via email to: info@greenpublicart.com . Selected artists notified on May 20, 2013 with an official invitation to participate.

COACHELLA VALLEY – RFQ – Public Artwork for the Coachella Valley Water District’s Palm Desert Administration Facility Education Center and Visitor Lobby

The Coachella Valley Water District (CVWD) is requesting qualifications from Artists to be considered for the commission of a permanent artwork and exhibits for the District’s Palm Desert Administration Facility project. The artwork will be located in the Education Center and visitor lobby of the CVWD Palm Desert Administration Facility and accessible for viewing by the public during normal CVWD work hours throughout the year. The Education Center and visitor lobby was designed and constructed to incorporate future exhibits presenting the history of water in the Coachella Valley.

ELIGIBILITY: Open to all professional artists

BUDGET: $90,000.

DEADLINE: Submissions must be received at or before 2:00 pm, Pacific Standard Time (PST) on Tuesday, December 11, 2012.

ARTIST REGISTRY – PALM DESERT

Artists interested in applying to the artist registry can do so by email or regular mail. Unfortunately, we no longer are accepting two dimensional artwork proposals, except for muralists because most of all the commissions are for out-of-doors sculpture and exterior treatments.

Artists should send 10-15 images in jpeg form with a description of medium, scale and location of artworks and resume to: dschwartz@cityofpalmdesert.org or Deborah Schwartz, Public Art Coordinator, City of Palm Desert, 73-510 Fred Waring Drive, Palm Desert, CA 92260.

DEADLINE: Submissions are accepted on an ongoing basis and juried into the registry
