LAGUNA BEACH – RFP – Banner Competition

The City of Laguna Beach Banner Competition is a project of the Arts Commission. Artists are provided with banner material on which to paint original artwork. The completed banners are displayed on lampposts throughout the City of Laguna Beach during June, July and August and celebrate the summer season. The completed banners are temporary and will be displayed when and where the City desires for up to 7 years or
based on condition.

ELIGIBILITY: Artists must live in Orange County, CA.

BUDGET: $3,000 will be awarded to all completed banners selected

LAGUNA BEACH – RFQ – 3 Projects (2x Beach Access + Stairway)

The City of Laguna Beach seeks an artist or artist team to design, fabricate and install dynamic, site-specific artwork for three unique projects,  Agate Street Beach Assess Project, Thalia Street Beach Access Project, Third Street Stairway Project, with the primary goal of creating iconic imagery, unique to the setting and scale of the location that enhances the Laguna Beach experience. Artists should be innovative and visionary to integrate art functionality with public spaces. These projects are made possible by the generous donations by Laguna Beach residents. Artists may submit their qualifications for one or all projects as deemed by their professional experience.


BUDGET: Each of the three unique projects will have a budget of $30,000

LAGUNA BEACH – RFP – Public Art Review Panel

The Arts Commission is seeking qualified Architects, Design Professionals, Artists, Curators and Directors of Arts Organizations to serve on a Public Art Review Panel. The Commission will review applications and approve a prequalified pool to review submissions.

LAGUNA BEACH – RFQ – Artist Designed Bench

Mountain Road beach access is undergoing renovation. The site is west of the intersection of Mountain Road and South Coast Highway and provides a steep stairway access to the beach. Next to the stairs is a flat area called the Garden of Peace and Love. In proximity to the location is The Coast Inn, former home to the Boom Boom Room. The Coast Inn is the second oldest bar in the City and is also undergoing renovation. The Boom Boom Room bar played a historically significant part in Laguna Beach’s emergence as a hub for gay nightlife. Laguna Beach is a city that takes pride in its diversified and cultured community.

ELIGIBILITY: Open to California resident artists with demonstrated experience in the design and production of site responsive public art.

BUDGET: $25,000 Inclusive of all artist’s fees and associated expenses for design, fabrications, insurance, transportation and installation. If selected, a finalist will receive $500 for proposal development, and a travel honorarium of up to $500 may be provided.

CITY OF LAGUNA BEACH – RFQ – Ocean Ave and Beach St Public Art Project

To create and install a sculpture, seating, mural/wall treatment at a busy intersection in downtown Laguna Beach. Selected artist will be awarded $45,000. The goal is to create a pocket park atmosphere to enhance the pedestrian experience.

ELIGIBILITY: Artists currently living in Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside and San Diego counties.

DEADLINE: March 17, 2014

BUDGET: The total budget for the artwork is $45,000.

Green Public Art Consultancy invites artists, performers and designers to create floats, placards, portable sculptures, kites, performances, art bikes, balloons and street spectacles for a Green Art Parade! Parade entries can make political statements, environmental messages. For inspiration, visit this pinterest board to get those wheels turning!

The route will begin at a location TBD in North Park and will conclude at Art Produce (3139 University Ave, San Diego, CA 92104). Participants must be able to walk, run, and/or roll the entire route. The route will not exceed 1 mile in length.

The Green Art Parade will occur on two dates, Saturday, July 13, 2013 and Saturday, August 10, 2013 from 7:00 – 8:00pm. An artist’s reception at the Art Produce gallery and garden will immediately follow each event.

ELIGIBILITY: This call is open to all artists residing in Southern California. Artists living in San Diego are especially encouraged to apply.

CITY OF LAGUNA BEACH – RFQ – Lifeguard Headquarters

The City of Laguna Beach is constructing a new Lifeguard Headquarters Facility which includes public restrooms. The construction is subject to the City’s Art in Public Places requirement to install public art. Main Beach Park and the location of the Lifeguard Headquarters Facility is in a centrally located site and is one of the City’s five ocean front parks. The project site is located at 175 North Coast Highway, near the west end of Main Beach where the sea and cliff begins. The area has high pedestrian traffic with beach use, and beach and park recreation activities, both active and passive.
ELIGIBILITY: Open to artists who live in Los Angeles, Orange and San Diego counties.
BUDGET: Sculpture: $60,000 and Mural: $40,000. Inclusive of all artist’s fees and associated expenses for design, fabrications, insurance, transportation and installation. Artists should identify in the letter of intent if they want to be considered for one or both public art opportunities.
