LOS ANGELES COUNTY ARTS COMMISSION – RFQ – Civic Art Field Registrar

The Los Angeles County Arts Commission seeks an individual with experience in museum registration and/or conservation, with specific skills in evaluating artworks, writing condition reports and photo documenting artworks and who will travel throughout Los Angeles County (4,083 square miles) as a two year contract Civic Art Field Registrar.

Reporting to the Civic Art Collections Manager, the Civic Art Field Registrar will assist the civic art collections staff in the County’s first comprehensive civic art baseline inventory project. This position will be responsible for conducting site visits to approximately 900 County properties over a two year period. The Arts Commission’s civic art collection database currently has 352 cataloged objects and the quantity of uncataloged artworks in the County is unknown. The Civic Art Field Registrar will be evaluating both known civic artworks as well as identifying and evaluating previously uncataloged artworks.

ELIGIBILITY: Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in fine art, art history, museum studies, conservation or a closely related field. Valid driver’s license and ability to travel throughout Los Angeles County. The Arts Commission will not provide a vehicle. See the RFQ for additional eligibility requirements.

BUDGET: Contract starts August 2015 and runs through August 2017. 40 hours/week. Compensation: $30/hour and mileage reimbursement. A Live Scan background check is required for the selected candidate.

DEADLINE: Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis. Position will remain open until the staffing need is met and may close without advance notice.
